Record volume of Norwegian Salmon exports in October
The value of exports of Norwegian Salmon in October totalled NOK 2.7 billion. This is an increase of NOK 460 million or 21% compared to the same month last year. The volume of exports in October increased by 16% to 95,000 tonnes, setting a new October record for the month of October. This year to date the value of Norwegian Salmon exports totals NOK 23.9 billion, equal to the same period last year, while export volume in the same period has increased by 23% or 153,000 tonnes to 808,000 tonnes, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.
“Despite strong growth in the volume of exports of salmon, both from Norway and internationally, export prices were higher in October compared to the same month last year. Strong growth in consumption of fresh Norwegian Salmon in European homes has contributed to the record figures for consumption of Norwegian Salmon,” says Paul Aandahl, market analyst with the Norwegian Seafood Council.
Growth in Norwegian Salmon exports to Europe
No less than 85% of Norwegian Salmon exports in October were destined for markets in Europe. EU countries accounted for 66% of the total export volume. The biggest market for Norwegian Salmon exports in terms of product weight was France, closely followed by Russia only 247 tonnes behind. Poland, the third biggest market for Norwegian Salmon, saw the strongest growth in export volume, up by 38% or 3,080 tonnes.
Norwegian Salmon exports to Asia show steady growth
The volume of exports of Norwegian Salmon to Asia in October topped 12,000 tonnes. This is 1,340 tonnes or 12% more than in the same month last year. Japan was the most important Asian market for Norwegian Salmon exports in October with export volume of 3,325 tonnes, up by 28% from October last year.
Strong growth in exports of fresh Norwegian Salmon fillets
In October the volume of exports of fresh Norwegian Salmon fillets totalled 6,631 tonnes. This is 43% more than in the same month last year. This year to date has seen growth of 24%, largely accounted for by European markets such as Poland, France, Sweden and the UK.
Growth in exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout
Exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout were up in value in October by 45% or NOK 50 million to a total of NOK 161 million. At the same time, the volume of exports was up by 52% or 1,933 tonnes to 5,609 tonnes. Russia, Belarus and Poland were the three biggest export markets for Norwegian Fjord Trout in October.
