Despite a decline in seafood exports in September, Norway has exported 1.8 million tonnes of seafood with a value of NOK 69 billion so far this year. This is a volume increase of 3 per cent, and a value increase of 6 per cent or NOK 3.7 billion measured against the same period last year.

August was a good month for Norwegian seafood exports. Norway exported 165,000 tonnes of seafood worth NOK 7.5 billion in August. Volume was 2 per cent higher, while export value increased by 7 per cent or NOK 501 million compared to August last year.

Norway exported 138 000 tonnes of seafood at a value of NOK 6,7 billion in July. Volumes were 4 percent lower, yet the export value increased by 2 percent, or NOK 115 million, compared to July 2016.

Hans Frode Kielland Asmyhr (47) has been appointed the new country representative for the Norwegian Seafood Council(NSC) in the UK. He will take up his role from 1 September.

Exports of whitefish have never before had a greater value in the first six months of the year. The growth is due primarily to conventional products, as well as fresh and frozen whole whitefish.

​Never before has Norway exported a greater value of seafood than in the first six months of 2017. The increase is due primarily to record-high salmon prices but also to strong growth in export volumes to the U.S. and Asian markets.

Norway exported 23 000 tonnes of shellfish worth NOK 766 million in the first six months of 2017. This is a decrease in volume of 22 per cent and a decline in value of 17 per cent versus the same period last year.

The value of Norwegian salmon exports is steadily reaching new heights. In the first six months, the export value for salmon has never been higher than this year. Record-high salmon prices and growth in the U.S. and Asia are the main reasons.

Challenges with market access and large herring catches are reflected in herring exports for the first six months, while the price for mackerel has been higher than last year despite larger quotas.

So far this year, Norway has exported 1.1 million tonnes of seafood worth NOK 39 billion. Export volumes have increased by 3 per cent, while the year-on-year growth in value is NOK 3.2 billion or 9 per cent.

In April ​Norway exported 151,000 tonnes of seafood to a value of NOK 6.8 billion. So far this year, Norway has exported 886,000 tonnes of seafood worth NOK 31 billion. Export volumes are at the same level as last year, while the value of Norwegian seafood exports has increased by NOK 2.3 billion or 8 per cent.

The Norwegian Seafood Council are today launching a new country of origin mark for Norwegian seafood, “Seafood from Norway”. The new mark guarantees the origins of seafood from Norway and contributes towards a stronger position for Norwegian seafood globally.

Norway exported 78,000 tonnes of herring and 68,000 tonnes of mackerel with a total value of NOK 1.7 billion in the first quarter. During the same period, Norway exported pelagic fish worth a total of 2.1 billion. While volume decreased by 6 per cent, the value grew by 7 per cent compared with the first period last year.

Norway exported 233,000 tonnes of salmon for NOK 16.1 billion in the first quarter. There is a volume increase of 3 percent and an increase of 21 percent, or 2.8 billion from the first quarter last year.

Norway exported 129 000 tonnes of cod, saithe, haddock and other groundfish to a value of NOK 4.2 billion in Q1 2017. This is a 5 per cent increase in terms of volume and a 6 per cent increase in value from the same period last year. The biggest increase was for frozen products, particularly frozen whole fish. But there was also a substantial increase in exports of whole clipfish.

Norway has exported 636,000 tonnes of seafood worth NOK 24.1 billion in the first quarter of this year. This is an increase of 13 per cent or 2.7 billion compared with the first quarter last year. Volume fell by 7 per cent.

Norway exported 196,000 tonnes of seafood to a total value of NOK 7.5 billion in February. This represents a volume decrease of 19 per cent and an increase by value of NOK 448 million or 6 per cent compared with February last year.

​The value of Norwegian salmon exports continues to grow. Sales in January were NOK 1,1 billion higher than in the previous January. However, salmon sales were reduced in Europe.

​Norway exported salmon worth NOK 61.4 billion in 2016. This is an increase of 29 per cent, or NOK 13.8 billion compared with 2015, and is the highest export value of salmon ever. Measured by volume, Norway exported 980,000 tonnes of salmon in 2016, which is 5.2 per cent or, 53,340 tonnes less than in 2015.
