The Indonesia Quarantine Agency (IQA) will require advance notification (Prior notice) for the export of seafood to Indonesia starting from October 6, 2024.
Indonesia has a similar system for plant-based products, and starting from October 6, 2024, it will also apply to fish and animal products. By introducing the requirement for advance notification, Indonesia aims to ensure that goods exported to Indonesia comply with SPS regulations.
In practical terms, the requirement for advance notification does not entail significant changes for the industry. The online advance notification is more of a summary of the documents accompanying the shipment. There is no requirement for new documents to accompany the shipment. For Indonesia, this is part of the transition from paper-based to electronic solutions. However, there is currently no need to upload any certificates electronically (including GMO certificates). All paper-based documents will accompany the shipment as before. Note that health and analysis certificates are two different documents, with the analysis certificate only applicable to plant-based products.
It is the exporters' responsibility to issue the advance notification via the online solution. Exporters must provide the reference number for the health certificate as part of the advance notification.
Please report back if you experience technical challenges with the advance notification, and the Norwegian Seafood Council will communicate this to IQA through Norwegian authorities.
