Summary of the article
- Through the partnership with the Norwegian Seafood Council, football star Erling Haaland will now appear as a Viking in the upcoming film ViQueens.
- ViQueens is scheduled for release in December 2026.
- The Norwegian Seafood Council has been a partner of the film from the start and has worked closely with director Harald Zwart and Zwart Arbeid.
- Haaland is already widely known as a ‘Norwegian Viking’, as well as a Norwegian seafood ambassador.
- The Norwegian seafood council hopes the film and partnership with Erling Haaland can present new possibilities for marketing and collaboration in different markets.
The new film by Harald Zwart and Zwart Arbeid follows two Viking girls as they set out on a thrilling and memorable adventure. At the heart of the story lies the role of seafood, and its importance to the Vikings as global traders.
The Norwegian Seafood Council has been a partner of the film from the very beginning and has worked closely with Zwart Arbeid to shape the storytelling around seafood in this new Viking universe. Now, another of the Council’s partnerships is being brought into the film: its collaboration with football star Erling Haaland.
“We are extremely proud that our seafood ambassador and international football star, Erling Haaland, will also take part in one of our other partnerships: the upcoming film ViQueens, directed by Harald Zwart. Haaland is widely known as a ‘Norwegian Viking’ as well as our seafood ambassador. By linking his strong and globally recognised profile with seafood in this new film that tells a modern Viking adventure, we can reach audiences across very different markets and target groups in an entirely new way,” says Christian Chramer, CEO of the Norwegian Seafood Council.
“He has already proven to be a powerful spokesperson and representative for Norwegian seafood internationally, highlighting both his own Norwegian background and the identity of Norwegian seafood in an excellent way,” Chramer adds.
Haaland becomes a “real” Viking
It was through creative discussions between the filmmakers and the Norwegian Seafood Council that the idea of working with Haaland was first raised. From there, it was a short step towards a three‑part collaboration, as taking on the role of a real Viking was something Erling Haaland himself was keen to do.
This role will give him the opportunity to both be a real Viking, as well as continue as an ambassador for Norwegian seafood in a new way.
Director Harald Zwart is also delighted to welcome a new “Viking” into the story.
“Erling has become a modern Viking icon internationally – fearless, powerful and unmistakably Norwegian. So when we set out to make a film set in this era, we couldn’t have found a better character. We let him play himself – the legendary Viking known as ‘Haaland’ – which gives the film a unique energy and authenticity,” says Zwart.

About the film ViQueens
The upcoming film by Harald Zwart follows the two Viking girls, Ingrid and Hedvig, as they embark on an exciting journey to return a stowaway from China.
The international version of ViQueens boasts an impressive cast, with Rita Ora and Ella Purnell lending their voices to Ingrid and Hedvig. The film’s music is composed by Christophe Beck, known for his work on the animated films Frozen and Frozen II.
Through the collaboration with the film, the Norwegian Seafood Council hopes that the Vikings can help represent Norwegian seafood in international marketing.
Sara Møllebakken, Creative Project Lead for the collaboration with Zwart Arbeid, believes the film will open up many exciting opportunities.
“ViQueens and its characters share something essential with Norwegian seafood: our origin and identity. Through this partnership, we hope to tell that story together – with both Vikings and seafood in leading roles,” says Møllebakken.
She points out that the combination of the partnership with Erling Haaland, ViQueens and Norwegian seafood is a perfect match – especially given Haaland’s already established image as a modern Norwegian Viking.
“It will be exciting to see the final result of this idea on the big screen. Until then, we’re all eagerly awaiting the premiere,” she concludes.
