The value of herring exports is NOK 1.9 billion so far this year. This represents a 15 per cent decline against the same period in 2013. Norwegian mackerel exports this year have reached NOK 3.3 billion, an increase of 41 per cent from the same period in 2013. Japan was the largest market for pelagic fish in October, followed by China and the Netherlands.
”A large quota and good fishing has made October our best ever export month for mackerel, with 154,000 tonnes by volume and a total sales value of NOK 1.6 billion,” says Jan Erik Johnsen, marketing manager at the Norwegian Seafood Council .
Norway exported pelagic fish worth NOK 1.7 billion in October. An increase of 7 per cent on the previous year. Herring exports totaled NOK 121 million, a 61 per cent decline from October 2013. Mackerel exports in October were NOK 1.6 billion, up 25 per cent year on year.
China is the largest market for Norwegian mackerel
So far this year, 308,000 tonnes of frozen whole mackerel have been exported. An increase of 56 per cent from the same period in 2013. The biggest importers of mackerel have been China, Japan, Nigeria and the Netherlands. The bulk of China´s mackerel imports are processed and then mostly sold onto the Japanese market. The average price of frozen whole mackerel has been NOK 10.33 per kg so far this year, which represents an 8 per cent decline compared to the same period last year.
October exports of frozen whole mackerel totaled 154,000 tonnes, which is 51 per cent more than in October 2013. The largest volumes have been exported to Japan, China and the Netherlands..
Russia is the largest market for Norwegian herring
Norway has exported 118,000 tonnes of frozen whole herring so far this year, which is a decrease of 10 per cent from the same period in 2013. Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania have been the largest export markets during this period. The average price of frozen whole herring was NOK 7.05 per kg, which is 5 per cent lower than the same period in 2013.
In October, 9,000 tonnes of frozen whole herring were exported, which is 49 per cent less than in October 2013. The largest volumes have been sold to Ukraine and Lithuania.
71,000 tonnes of frozen herring fillet products have been exported year to date, which is a decrease of 1 per cent from the same period in 2013. The largest markets in terms of volume have been Germany, Poland and Russia. The average price of frozen herring fillet products has been NOK 11.04 per kg, which represents a decrease of 10 per cent year on year.
In October, 3,000 tonnes of frozen herring fillet products were exported, which is 67 percent down on October 2013. The largest volumes have gone to Germany and Poland.
